Sikhareswara Swami Temple, another popular place to visit in Srisailam, is situated on the highest peak of Srisailam known as sikharam. Known for the panoramic view of the natural beauty of downhill and River Krishna, Sikharam is an alluring place to visit.

The temple is dedicated to the Lord of Sikharam, Veera Sankara Swamy. There are many legends that are associated with this temple. It is believed that Lord Shiva, pleased with the prayers of his devotees, appeared in the form of Veera Sankara Swamy, popularly known as Sikhareswara Swamy, before his devotees. The popular belief is that Lord Siva in this form can eradicate the sins of the devotees.

The view of the surrounding landscape from the temple is absolutely stunning, which is sure to add further charm to your visit. Along with Sikhareswara Swamy Temple, there is another shrine dedicated to Lord Ganesha in Sikharam.

History and Architecture of Sikhareswara Swami Temple, Srisailam

Sikhareswaram temple, is an ancient temple which also presents breathtaking scenic beauty and captivating architecture.This temple is consisted of Garbhagriha and an Antaralaya. There is also a 16 pillar mukhamandapam in the temple.

The stairs to this temple were built in 1398 AD by the Reddy Kings. It was during the same time when a tank was also built. There are around 150 steps to the temple. However, if you are entering the temple from southern side, then you can reach by climbing around 30 steps only.

This temple has been mentioned in ancient Hindu texts as well. For instance, in the Skanda Purana, a highly sacred Hindu text, it is written that by visiting or by seeing the Sikharam, devotees can attain moksha, which means freedom from the cycle of rebirth.

During ancient eras devotees used to come on foot for darshan at the temple. In case of any unseen circumstances or health issues, even if they couldn't go upto the temple, they could achieve moksha by just seeing the peak.

Timings of Sikhareswara Swami Temple, Srisailam

Sikhareswara Temple Timings are from 6 AM to 2 PM. It is then closed in afternoon and again opens for darshan in evening from 5 PM to 8.30 PM. The temple is open on all days of the week.

How to reach Sikhareswara Swami Temple in Srisailam

Sikhareswara Temple is located around 1 km away from Srisailam Bus stand. Hence, reaching this temple is quite easy. Tourists can take an auto rickshaw and reach the temple within a few minutes. One can also hire a private taxi as well.

It is around 5 km from Sakshi Ganapathi Temple and around 3 km from Hatakeswaram. From Paladhara and Panchadhara, it is around 3.5 km away.
